As estimated by Prismark, China is expecting a PCB output value at US$28.972 billion that accounts for over 50% of the global total. At present, there are about 2,500 PCB manufacturers across the world. Among them, over 1,200 are in the Chinese Mainland, or a half of that figure.

Fast-growing PCB industry in China seeks for high-end products

For its global market size high at US$500 billion, PCB is ranked third on the list of electronic components/devices, following Integrated Circuit and Panel. It is widely used in the world, mainly in computer, communication and Consumer Electronics fields, and additionally automobile and war industries, with the former three jointly taking 70% share of the PCB application market.

Take automobile as an example, electronization at an even higher level is required for New-energy Vehicles. Electronic devices account for approximately 25% of costs of traditional limousines, yet the figure becomes 45-65% when it comes to New-energy Vehicles. Meanwhile, BMS is presenting a new growth in PCB for automobiles. This kind of PCB will see a new round of increase in demand as electronization further develops. TECHIP experts in decryption pointed out in a research report that PCB for automobiles is expected to witness a composite growth rate at 4% to raise its market size from US$5.2 billion in 2017 to US$6.1 billion in 2021, and thus become the fastest growing sector of application.

As a result of rapid development and consequent expanding scale of electronic information industry, the annual total of main business income from consumer electronics manufacturing in China reached RMB11.1 trillion, the No.1 in the world. As one of carriers the nearest to end products, PCB is experiencing a growing domestic demand thanks to dramatic popularity of downstream end products. Besides, as indicated in a Zhongtai Securities research report, the production capacity for PCB in the Chinese Mainland is enjoying a growth rate 5-7% higher than the global average.

Manufacturers in the Chinese Mainland are engaged in low and middle-end products the most needed in the market, namely single-sided, double-sided and multilayer boards. With such products, China took an over 60% share of the global market in 2013. As for the high-end sector, some of domestic manufacturers have gained access to the supply chain of Apple, an international business giant, seeking a place in the field.
